Welton Rovers 1 Longwell Green 1

Welton were dominant in most phases of an exciting game but had to give the visitors respect as Longwell Green were often dangerous going forward.

After the previous day's heavy rain, the pitch was heavy, but straight from the kick-off James Billings did well when he ran at the defence and fired in a great shot that visiting keeper Mark Britton did well to save.

Longwell Green responded and a good run into the Welton box by Chris Always was eventually cleared by the Welton defence for a corner.

Then a sweeping attack by Welton saw Mark Rowlands set up Chris Lewis and his driven cross caused panic for the visitors' defence before the ball was eventually cleared.

Further Welton pressure saw a quick throw from Dave Blake find Lewis and his cross was met by the head of Billings, but his effort flashed past the post.

Tristan Westlake in the Welton goal did well to deny Jordan Metters' volley with a top-quality save.

Welton continued to press and good work by Lee Bryant saw the full-back race out of defence and send in a pinpoint pass that fell at the feet of Lewis, who shot first time, only to see his effort strike the Longwell Green bar and go out of play.

The second half started with constant pressure on the visitors' goal. Ross Vickerman was booked for bringing down Lewis and good play by Gary Banks set up Billings but his snap-shot was cleared for a corner.

Lewis took the corner and Nick Hudson rose above the defence only to see his header fly past the post.

Despite the constant pressure Welton seemed unable to make the final ball count until, in the 70th minute, Billings was brought down in the area by Longwell Green keeper Britton.

Welton captain Dean Evans took responsibility for the spot- kick, fired it in with force, only to see Britton pull off a fine save.

Five minutes later it was the visitors' turn to get a penalty when substitute Dave Parnell raced into the Welton box and was adjudged to have been brought down by Hudson.

Former Welton player Chris Churchill made no mistake from the spot.

Welton responded in style straight from the restart as Evans attacked and his well- struck shot could only be palmed away by Britton.

The ball fell to Billings, who drilled his shot past the keeper and into the net to equalise.

Both sides went all out for the winner but the points were shared.
