Billie Bear birthdays, new members and diary for week beginning July 15.
Hello everyone. I hope you are all having a great week. I have heard that many of you are taking part in some fun activities at school at the moment, like sports days, reading days and cycling workshops. It makes the end of term even more exciting, don't you think?
We had an interesting day earlier this week. We went down to the woods. Not for a teddy bears picnic this time but for a whole day of forest school. First of all we were split into teams and sent on a scavenger hunt. Each team had a bag to put all their finds in and we were given a list of things to find from the woodland floor. They were items such as hazelnuts and hazelnut shells, an untidily eaten cone, a neatly nibbled cone, a dandelion clock, a colourful feather, a white, downy feather, a buttercup (do you like to put buttercups under your chin to see if you like butter?), a four-leaf clover and five different grasses.
It took us ages and we were quite puffed out by the end of the morning but we had found most of the things on our list. Then our forest school teacher told us all about our finds – that the untidily eaten cone was probably munched by a squirrel and the neatly nibbled one was eaten by a mouse. To end the day we took part in mini-beast races in which we had to race like a beetle with six legs, a spider with eight or a millipede with lots of legs. Most of us ended up in a heap on the floor as we attempted to scramble across the finish line. I think it's much easier to run with just two legs.
Why don't you go on a scavenger hunt next time you're out in the countryside or, if the weather keeps you indoors, you could look on my website for crafty things to do? Visit www.thisissomerset.co.uk and click on your local area for a link to the Billie Bear page.
