Hello to you all – do any of you have any Scottish friends or relatives?

If you do you might know that Monday is a very important date for anyone who comes from Scotland, because it is Burns' Night. Robert Burns was a famous Scottish poet who was born in 1759. His poems were so important that every year people remember him by holding a Burns' supper on his birthday.

I am always interested in anything to do with food so my furry bear ears pricked up at the mention of a supper, but when mum told me what is eaten at the meal I was not so sure. Have you ever heard of cock-a-leekie soup, haggis, neeps and tatties? It all sounded very odd until mum explained that the soup was just chicken and leek and that a haggis is a bit like a big ball of sausage in a skin, neeps are turnips and tatties are potatoes. Sometimes there is sherry trifle for pudding, which is one of my favourites. Mum said that on Monday night we can have our own version of a Burns' supper with soup, sausage, mashed potatoes and turnips for tea. I'm hoping we can make a trifle for pudding too – yummy.

Now, I have a new member to introduce to you all this week. Youssef Elnagar, who comes to stay with his grandma in Shepton Mallet, is joining us. Youssef loves trains, especially Thomas and goes to the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore when he stays here. Youssef also loves the film, Mamma Mia! and knows the words to the songs. A big Billie welcome to you.
