Bike to the future – picture recreates the past
DOZENS of people turned out to recreate a picture dating back to the 1888 of cyclists on Weston-super-Mare seafront.
The promenade was packed with around 50 cyclists all wanting to help recreate the picture of riders from Weston Cycling Club.
The original picture showed people on bicycles including Penny Farthings, around the junction of Knightstone Road and the seafront.
People turned up on old-fashioned and more modern pushbikes for the stunt to restage the scene, with some swapping Lycra for period costumes.
The picture – and the original print – will go on display as part of a photographic exhibition at Weston museum called Going for a Spin, which celebrates cycling in Somerset in all its different forms.
The exhibition has been put together by the Somerset Heritage Service and runs until November 24.
Entry to the exhibition, which opens Tuesday to Sundays from 10am to 5pm, is free. Contact the museum on 01934 621028.
