The annual challenge kicks off at 11.45am on July 8 giving people the chance to compete in the fun event in which participants will complete a swim around the Marine Lake followed by a run up to the pier and back.

“We have events and entertainment taking place all day and we’re expecting huge crowds on the front.

“There is still time to sign up to the aquathlon and people can even enter on the day if they’re feeling energetic.

“This is one of our most popular events and is great fun with the crowds cheering everybody on.”

At 2pm a parade of tin men, lions and scarecrows will make its way from the bandstand to Clevedon’s historic Curzon Cinema to see a special screening of the Wizard of Oz.

The Earthquake Barbershop Quartet will sing them on their way with renditions of Somewhere over the Rainbow, Follow the Yellowbrick Road and We’re off to see the Wizard.

Joe said: “The parade is going to be quite a spectacle with people young and old in fancy dress walking down to the Curzon.

“As well as the entertainment we are organising, the pier and all the pubs and cafes will be open as usual, now we’ve just got to keep our fingers crossed for good weather.”

Non-profit organisation Marlens organises events such as this for the whole community and aim to raise money for vital repairs and conservation of the marine lake.

Local acts appearing at the bandstand include Ant Noel & the Peabody Drakes, Sharpshooters, The Oakies and acoustic trio Cocoa Hill.
