Bid to speed up roadworks outside new Morrisons supermarket in Wells
Action is being promised to force Morrisons supermarket to complete the roadworks outside their new Wells store.
The roadworks on East Somerset Way have been causing disruption to motorists for several months while building work was completed and show no sign of ending despite the store being open for more than a month.
The leader of Somerset County Council, John Osman, said: “The county council has been working with Morrisons for a number of months regarding highways provision.
“On several occasions we have queried Morrisons’ plans in order to ensure the junction was safe for pedestrians and motorists.

“Morrisons promised traffic signals would be put in place within ten days of the store opening.
“They have not done this and I have asked county council officers to get the matter resolved.”
The roadworks have led to congestion and complaints of increased traffic in Dulcote as vehicles forced to turn left as they exit the store cut through the village to get back into Wells.
A Morrisons spokesman said: “We understand the situation is causing customers some problems and are keen to get this resolved as quickly as we can.
“We’re working closely with the council’s highways department to agree the traffic light design and will be implementing it as soon as it’s agreed.”
