Clevedon Athletics Club delivered their best performance of the Gloucester Cross-Country series with success on an individual and team level in Tewkesbury.

Laura Croker, Steve James, Andy Ewing and Peter Fews made their competition debuts for the club at the event, which took place on frozen ground in bitterly cold conditions.

The ladies' race took place in light snow, with Croker leading Clevedon home in 11th in 31mins 29secs, despite falling during the race and having set a 5k personal best in Burnham two days earlier. Kate Britten was 13th in 31:48 and Helen Ball 19th in 32:52, both recording their highest finishes of the season.

This was enough to earn second place in the vets' team competition and third in the senior standings.

With conditions worsening, the men took to the course and Clevedon's fastest four finished within a minute of each other.

First in was Stuart Hancock in 22nd (39:39), followed by Andy Shaw in 24th (39:50), Nick Hides in 25th (40:09) and Fews in 29th (40:31). James finished 64th (44:04), Ben Hides 78th (45:50) and Ewing 106th (53:08). These results earned second in the vets team event and fourth in the senior competition.

Clevedon also came away with silverware when the series prizes were handed out. Britten was third in the V35 category and Shaw also got bronze in the V40, while Malcolm Roberts earned the silver medal in the V65 competition.

Croker's time of 19:44 at the Burnham 5k earned her first place in the women's race and Clevedon also took top spot in the men's standings thanks to Luke Murray's time of 17:38. Simon Hancock was tenth in 19:36, Bob Croker was 20th in 20:41, Neil Wallace was 24th overall and third M50 in 21:17 and Ewing was 32nd in 23:20.

At the Blackmore Vale Half Marathon, Maria Powell won the ladies' V45 category with a personal best of 1:28:32, coming fifth in the ladies' standings.
