Beckington Go-Kart Rally brings racing thrills to village streets

The sleepy streets of Beckington resembled those of Monte Carlo at the inaugural Beckington Go-Kart Rally.

The event, sponsored by Global Premier, was a huge success despite the persistent rain with more than 50 teams taking part.

Competitors, many in fancy dress, pushed their homemade or eBay bought go-karts along a one kilometre track littered with various obstacles and tasks.

Competitors were cheered along the way by more than 100 spectators, and running commentary from Life on Mars writer Matt Graham.

Winners of the under-12 category, sponsored by Mindset Training Ltd, were Beckington Airlines, second were BA Boys with Team 1787 third.

Triple Zero won the family category, sponsored by Beckington Pre-School, with second place going to The Bat Boys and ShuMacca third.

Team Hiller won the 12-18 years category, sponsored by Beckington Cricket Club, with second place going to JH Racing and Jones & Edney third.

The over-18 category, sponsored by the Foresters Arms, saw the Crew of the Ocean's Night triumph, with Mills on Wheels second and Pre-School Special third.

The fastest overall time was recorded by Triple Zero, sponsored by Fidelius Insurance, and fancy dress contest winner was The Flintstones.

Money raised will be divided between Beckington Pre-school and the village cricket club.
