Battle for places on professional dance course in Radstock
Talented performers from around the country will this weekend gather at the Susan Hill School of Dancing in Radstock as Bath Dance College holds its first round of auditions. With only 15 places in each class the stakes are high with more than 60 candidates auditioning for each. Bath Dance College opened its doors in September to enabled talented youngsters the chance to train professionally on a full time vocational performing arts course in the south west for the first time to save them having to travel to London or the north for similar courses. Head of Dance George Hill said: "We have had an overwhelming amount of audition applications with people travelling from literally all around the United Kingdom. We have applications from Hertfordshire, another from Cornwall and even a girl travelling to us from Ireland. "I am extremely excited about Sunday. It is amazing how much talent this region harbours. "Coming from Radstock I am passionate about offering students from this area the opportunity. A career on the stage is dream which without professional training very seldom becomes a reality; however we are giving these students the tools and training they need in order to make their dreams a reality. " It is also one of the only schools in the country to offer its students' academic A levels options that run alongside the performing arts curriculum. George, who spent many years as a professional ballet dancer, will next month be in London teaching at the Move It Dance festival in Earls Courts Olympia. He has been invited to teach master classes at the event alongside some of the countries most talented performers including British ballerina Darcey Bussell.
