Robinson, who played for and coached Bath during a glittering career, said: “Tom has worked his way into the Bath first-team squad from the academy and we’ve been monitoring his progress for the last couple of years.”
Heathcote was recently short-listed for the 2013 LV= Breakthrough Player Award in England.
He was called up by Scotland after stand-off Ruaridh Jackson was one of five players released from the squad by Robinson following the 21-10 defeat by South Africa.
Heathcote joined the Scotland squad last night and the team for the Tonga game will be announced today.
Bath first-team coach Mike Ford said: “This is fantastic news for Tom and the club.
“His form last season and what we’ve seen this season has been very mature for his age and he has impressed a lot of people with his attitude and skill level – we are delighted for him.”
