Tom Heathcote has no regrets about his decision to switch national loyalties and play for Scotland.

The Bath Rugby fly-half, who had previously played age- group rugby for England and featured for the Red Rose under-20s in the summer's Junior World Championships in South Africa, was a surprise inclusion in Scotland’s squad for their ill-fated final autumn Test against Tonga.

Heathcote came off the bench to make his debut in that match on November 24 but could not turn the tide as the Tongans won 21-15 on Scottish soil. That dispiriting result cost the ex-Bath man who had picked Heathcote, Andy Robinson, his job.

With Six Nations fever now starting to spread, it is interim Scotland boss Scott Johnson who will decide what role Heathcote, who turns 21 next month, will play in the forthcoming championship.

Johnson included the Bath youngster alongside ten uncapped players in his 35-strong training squad on Monday. The party will convene in Glasgow on Sunday for a three-day camp.

Looking back on his debut and the week leading up to it, Heathcote said: “It was a bit of rollercoaster. Everything happened pretty quickly, from being called up to flying up there.

“I had a really good week and got on really well with all the guys and the coaches. Training was good and we went into the game with a lot of confidence.

“It was quite an interesting day emotionally. I was happy to have got my first cap but massively disappointed with the result and how everything turned out.”

Heathcote looks set to start in Bath’s final Amlin Challenge Cup pool game against Bucharest Wolves tomorrow.

Bath are offering a free ticket to the Bucharest match for anyone buying an adult match ticket.

Any ticket purchased within this offer will entitle the buyer to a priority booking period for the home Amlin quarter-final, before the game goes on general sale.

This offer can only be booked over the phone on 0844 448 1865 or in person at the Ticket Office on Pulteney Bridge. If a season ticket holder purchases an additional full price adult ticket they too are entitled to one extra free.
