Barry George, who spent eight years in prison after being wrongly convicted of the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando, will today launch a test case fight for compensation.

Miss Dando, who was born in Weston-super-Mare, was 37 when she was shot outside her home in Fulham, south west London, in April 1999.

George was convicted of her murder in 2001, but the conviction was quashed in 2007.

In 2009 George accepted substantial undisclosed libel damages from the Sun and News of the World over claims that he had pestered women.
