Baron's opera showcase has broad appeal
The inimitable missionary Baron Herzog returns to his beloved "Corneywall" this month on a mission to share his Box of Operatic Delights, in the company of the county's own Duchy Opera company.
This is a fast, funny and unpredictable show, ideal for those who don't yet know that they are going to love opera, as well as those who already do.
Combining a humorous look at some of the cliches and stereotypes that surround opera with powerful and beautifully sung examples of the genre, it features solo and chorus pieces from Mozart, Lehar, Donizetti, Verdi and more, with music from famous works such as Carmen, The Magic Flute, The Elixir of Love, The Merry Widow, La Traviata and Il Trovatore. Performances including famous arias like Nessun Dorma (Turandot), Vilia, (The Merry Widow), and The Toreador (Carmen).
All this will be delivered with the chorus of Duchy Opera – who have built a reputation as one of the finest semi-professional regional opera companies in the country – and their musical director Paul Drayton, as well as special guest singers including Cheryl Brendish, Kay Deeming, Lucy Eaton, Sue Lancaster, Ben Hoadley, John Hobbs and Ian Kinver.
