Six fire engines and a water carrier were called to the scene to attempt to extinguish the fire.

A spokeswoman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said farm, electrical machinery and livestock has been moved from close proximity to the blaze.

Police are currently controlling the flow of traffic on the B3139 both ways between Coalpit Lane and Parsonage Lane.

Those at the scene say it has been suggested that the fire started after the starter motor of a tractor caught alight - although this is yet to be confirmed by the fire service.
