Bank is flooded
IT APPEARS as though a bank needed bailing out again – this time from firefighters.
Firefighters were called to HSBC in Burnham after torrential rain flooded inside on Wednesday, August 25.
Crews rushed to the College Street bank at about 6.30pm after its alarms sounded when water flooded through the ceiling.
Firefighters and staff used buckets to collect water and minimise damage, and crews used an extendable ladder to get onto the roof to find out the flooding source.
The water was coming in through a leak in the first and second-floor and crews battled with it for an hour.
A fire spokesman said: "We had to get onto the roof to discover the problem and fix it.
"We did our best to minimise damage to the building and furnishings."
Eventually the leak stopped as rain subsided and the bank was open for business as normal the next morning.
A bank spokesman said: "We thank the firefighters they were a great help and the damage was just minor."
