BT has been named the preferred broadband supplier for a £52 million project to bring superfast broadband to 85 per cent of Somerset by 2015.

Still subject to due diligence, the deal is expected to be signed by Christmas.

Superfast broadband is considered to be speeds in excess of 24Mbps.

The Connecting Devon and Somerset scheme aims to get superfast broadband for the whole county within eight years.
