BBC Stargazing Live Discovery Night comes to Taunton Racecourse
All eyes will be on the sky over Somerset next Thursday evening when Taunton Racecourse hosts the BBC Stargazing Live Discovery Night.
Top astronomy author, lecturer and broadcaster Dr Francisco Diego will be the special guest at the event, which coincides with the new series of Stargazing Live on BBC2 presented by Professor Brian Cox and Dara O’Briain.

Visitors are invited to join in with a variety of free activities including telescope sessions, talks, mobile planetaria, comet-making and storytelling.
Event producer Trish Campbell, from BBC Learning, said: “The Discovery Night aims to encourage everyone to make the most of the night sky, from the complete beginner to the enthusiastic amateur.

Members of the Bridgwater, South Somerset, Tiverton & Mid Devon and Crewkerne & District Astronomical Societies will be on hand with hints and tips for getting started in stargazing and advice on navigating your way around the skies.
The Discovery Night venues include the Grandstand, the Paddock Stand, the Orchard Stand and the Parade Ring area, while BBC Somerset will be previewing the day and broadcasting live from the event.
The Discovery Night at Taunton Racecourse on Thursday, January 10, is free of charge and will be open for five hours from 4.30pm to 9.30pm.
Visitors are recommended to wear warm clothing, sturdy footwear and bring a torch. Hot and cold refreshments will be on sale at the racecourse and free parking is available on site.
