Wells B 10 Wedmore C 3

Wells avenged their defeat away at Wedmore earlier in the season with a comfortable victory in the reverse fixture on home soil.

The men's rubber started tentatively, with both sides trying to find their feet. The Wells pair of Martyn Holliday and Mike Lintern found theirs first and cruised to a first-set victory with ease.

Wedmore regrouped and led throughout the majority of the second set but, thanks to Lintern's trademark net play and Holliday's dogged determination, Wells overhauled the deficit to claim the second set and the match 6-2 6-4.

The Wells ladies' duo of Phylis Jennings and Anne Croll found their match a much tighter affair. After narrowly losing the first set 6-4, the Wedmore ladies stamped their authority and pulled away to take the second set as well.

With the scores tied, the mixed doubles rubbers would be needed to separate the two teams. Lintern and Jennings started well in the first and never let up, putting in a solid performance. They never let Wedmore settle and took the match 6-3 6-3.

Holliday and Croll's clash was well matched with neither pair able to dominate. Although there was some sparkling play from both sides, nobody could find the consistency they needed to grab a stranglehold on the match.

After a tiring and hard-fought battle, Wells eventually won the final contest 6-4 4-6 6-4 to take the overall spoils.
