Artist Alfred Leete's work goes on display in Weston-super-Mare Museum
Artworks by famous artist Alfred Leete – who studied in Weston- super-Mare – have gone back on display at the town’s museum.
Mr Leete, a British graphic artist, studied at Kingsholme School in the resort before moving to London in 1899 to work as an artist.

Over his career he contributed to a number of magazines, including Punch, the Strand magazine, and Tatler. As a commercial artist he designed numerous posters and advertisements, especially in the 1910s and 1920s for brands such as Rowntrees chocolates, Guinness and Bovril.
His work as a wartime propagandist includes the poster for which he is known above all, the Lord Kitchener poster design, which first appeared on the cover of the weekly London Opinion on September 5, 1914.

He also designed the 1925 advertisement for the town of Weston-super-Mare. Leete died of a cerebral haemorrhage at his home in London on 17 June 1933, and is buried in Milton Road Cemetery in the seaside resort.
This January museum staff took down the small display of Alfred Leete’s work to preserve and better display his work.
