If it can be painted, welded, glued, stitched, filmed or photographed, expect to see it during Somerset Art Weeks.

The fortnight-long smorgasbord of culture features some 400 artists in more than a 100 places.

Somerset Art Weeks runs from September 17 to October 2.

The event is countywide but here in mid-Somerset why not pop along and see:

Ten artists at work in historic Abbey House in Glastonbury. The 19th century manor will see exhibits in both the house and the gardens. Items of note are a postcard collection, work from men at HMP Grendon in Buckinghamshire and a prayer flag installation;

Somerset Through the Eye of A Needle is an exhibition of stitched textiles at the Tithe Barn in Pilton;

An impressive nine artists are embedded in Lerburne Studio at Lerburne House, Wedmore. They bring with them photos, paintings, homeware, willow pieces and textiles;

In Wells, five artists skilled in glass, steel, ceramics, wire sculpture and furniture occupy Stoberry Park, which is also open for the National Garden Scheme.

Kevin McCloud, of Grand Designs fame, is patron of the event. He said: "Somerset is part of the world that is rightly famous for its diversity in food, drink, landscape, culture and art.

"Travelling around the county during Somerset Art Weeks, you can enjoy all of them."

There are 31 venues in mid-Somerset and details of dates, times and addresses will be in next week's What's On. Otherwise see www.somersetart works.org.uk.
