Appeal to return running trophies
An appeal has gone out for silverware that may be lying under two years of dust.
The organiser of this year's Shepton Mallet Fun Run has put out a plea for runners to return the trophies that they would have been given two years ago.
Last year's 10km and 5km races had to be scrapped due to road closure problems, although a junior run and wacky relay event were held.
All four runs are due to be staged this year – a month later than usual – on October 19.
But the year delay has proved problematical for organiser Kaye Watts.
"Because the 10km and 5km races were cancelled, I never quite recovered all the trophies from the year before," she said.
"The results from two years ago were also wiped from the website and we are still trying to locate the full results, including addresses of the winners, to write to them and ask for trophies to be returned.
"So in the meantime, if anyone who did win one of the trophies in 2006 and 2007 could please return them, the organisers would be very grateful."
Entry forms for the 2008 races have now been printed and are available from Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre, Shepton Mallet Tourist Information, the Train Station Gym, M J Sports shop, and can be downloaded from the Wells City Harrier www.wellscityharriers.co.uk website.
The fun on this year's race day will begin at 10.30am with the Wacky Relay race, followed by the start of the junior 1km run at 10.45am and then the 10km and 5km runs.
All races are expected to have started by 11am.
Runners are being encouraged to enter by post, before October 12, with entries on the day having to be in by 10.15am to the race headquarters, at the West Shepton Playing Field.
The route of the runs is along the B3136, along Ridge Lane and back on the Old Wells Road.
Runners have to be aged at least 15 to take part in the 10km race, 13 for the 5km run, and a maximum age of 12 in the junior 1km race.
Teams of all ages – from eight to 80, can enter the wacky relay race.
