Anthony Conradi's double earns Welton Rovers victory at Roman Glass
Welton Rovers moved into the Toolstation Division 1’s top five with a 2-1 success at Roman Glass St George.
The Green Army travelled to Oaklands to find a building site and a brand new artificial pitch. Hosts Roman Glass now share the ground with the Gloucestershire FA and Winterbourne United respectively.
The game started at a frenetic pace and was littered with fouls as both teams came to terms with the surface.
On 21 minutes, Welton’s Anthony Conradi ran on to the ball 25 yards out before beating his marker and shooting across the keeper to give the visitors the lead.
It was nearly 2-0 ten minutes later when a shot hit one post, bounced along the line and hit the other post before being picked up by a despondent-looking goalkeeper. When he realised that neither of the officials had given the goal he continued playing and the score remained at 1-0.
Welton started slowly after the restart, and conceded something of a wonder goal - a bicycle kick from the edge of the penalty area which rocketed past King.
Nick Beaverstock rang the changes almost immediately. Paul Banks and Ryan Gay entered the fold and it was Banks who made the vital contribution. A long ball forward was flicked on by the substitute and picked up by the lethal Conradi, who dummied the keeper and slotted the it into the back of the unguarded net.
Ritchie Chandler and Byron Lismore were outstanding at the back as Roman Glass pressed forward in search of an equaliser.
With ten minutes to go the home side should have equalised - and possibly had claims for a penalty - but it was Welton who secured the three points.
