Alviro Petersen commits to Somerset's Friends Life t20 campaign
Somerset are hoping to be able to field both Alviro Petersen and Abdur Rehman in the Friends Life t20 this year, after confirming the South African batsman would be available for the tournament.
Petersen initially signed for the opening half of the LV= County Championship season – but he has now extended his stay in Taunton until the end of July.

Overseas signing Alviro Petersen
That will allow him to compete for Somerset in the FLt20, while the county also hope the international calendar allows them to field Pakistan spinner Rehman in the same competition. He recently signed for the second half of the season.
Somerset coach Andy Hurry said: “Alviro will be available for the whole of the Twenty20, which is great news, but the situation with Rehman is dependent on confirmation of Pakistan’s Test series against West Indies. There is hope that the dates will overlap, so we can play both Alviro and Manny in the Twenty20.”

Somerset have effectively ruled out signing any West Indian players for this season’s FLt20, due to their commitments elsewhere.
Kieron Pollard has represented the county in the past, while they attempted to sign Chris Gayle last summer.
But Hurry said: “It’s very difficult to get any continuity of availability with West Indian players.
“There is also a lot of talk and hype about an American Premier League, which would target West Indian players, and we need to make sure that we are making decisions that can give us continuity.”
Petersen, who last week scored 106 for South Africa against New Zealand in the first Test in Cape Town, said: “I am very pleased that I will now be able to stay on at Somerset and play for them in the Twenty20 competition.
“Over the years they have done well in the competition and I would like to think that my contributions will help them to lift the trophy.”
Shivnarine Chanderpaul has signed a two-year contract with County Championship Division One side Derbyshire. The West Indian is currently rated as the number two Test batsman in the world.
