Alliance to get views on neurological services
A new patient group is asking members of the public to give their views on services for people with neurological conditions in Somerset.
Patients and carers affected by neurological conditions have formed the Somerset Neurological Alliance to gather people's views and help improve services.
Somerset resident Val Palmer, who is a carer for someone affected by Huntington's Disease, said: "We want to help people with neurological conditions have a louder voice when it comes to how services are run. We are asking members of the public in Somerset to give us their views about what's good and bad about current services, so that we can make sure that services are being properly run for people in Somerset."
Neurological conditions result from damage to the brain, spinal column or nerves, caused by illness or injury. They include conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease and encephalitis.

The setting up of a Somerset Neurological Alliance has been supported by staff and members of local charities and groups that work for patients and carers, including local branches of Parkinson's UK, Headway UK and the independent patient watchdog the Somerset Local Involvement Network (LINk).
The Somerset Neurological Alliance will take people's views to the new GP-led board that is taking over the commissioning of health services in Somerset.
