Ahoy! RNLI visit Hugh Sexey Middle School, Blackford
We all know the RNLI go to extreme lengths to rescue those in watery distress but this RNLI boat wasn’t in landlocked Blackford for lifesaving purposes.
Pupils at Hugh Sexey Middle School were visited by six volunteers from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on Tuesday of last week.

Permission to board: Year 5 head Theresa Warrell and Mark Bradley and John Preece of the RNLI at Hugh Sexey Middle School
All of the Year 5 pupils took part in an assembly and five workshops, where they found out about the work of the RNLI and learnt about safety in the water, the beach and in mud, which is a particular problem along our local coastline.
The children even had the opportunity to climb aboard a D-Class RNLI lifeboat, which was brought to the school especially for this event.

The school said it was very grateful to the RNLI crew of volunteers for organising this exciting and informative morning, which contributed to a wider study of safety in the curriculum.
Year 5 pupils are now designing posters to highlight the dangers of mud. The best of these posters will be displayed at Burnham-on-Sea Lifeboat Station during the summer season.
