Adie Britton: FA Cup run can spark Blue Square Bet South promotion push
Bath City boss Adie Britton believes a run in the FA Cup can spark another Blue Square Bet South promotion push at Mayday Trust Park.
City travel to Devon to take on free-scoring Toolstation League Premier Division outfit Buckland Athletic in the second qualifying round today and, with the winners of the tie banking £4,500, Britton is only too aware of its importance.
He said: “In the context of our season, the FA Cup is a really big thing for us.
“We’ve done well in the competition in two of the last three seasons and it has generated both funds and excitement.

“There are a few similarities with the 2009-10 season, when we were 17th in the league in October, but winning a few rounds of the cup got us going.
“We ended up beating Grimsby and reached the second round proper and, without that run, I don’t think we would have won promotion that year.”
Buckland have impressed since winning promotion from the South West Peninsula League last season. Unbeaten in ten competitive outings so far, they have found the net 42 times already this season.
Meanwhile, Bath have signed former Forest Green midfielder Chris Allen, 23, on a short-term deal, while Aaron Brown, Noah Keats and Josh Low should also be fit.
