Wells Jazz Collective is bringing the John Law Trio to the Wells Little Theatre on Saturday.

John Law started classical piano aged four and performed first in public at six years of age.

After winning an Open Scholarship he studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he won prizes for piano playing.

Despite then winning an Austrian government scholarship to study in Vienna with the pianist Badura-Skoda, and receiving encouragement from an early classical influence, pianist Alfred Brendel, he turned to jazz in 1986.

John has been at the forefront of contemporary jazz piano composition within the UK and Europe for the past 25 years.

Asaf Sirkis is one of the country's finest jazz drummers.

Originally from Israel, Asaf is a pioneering kit player leading his own trio also performing as the first choice drummer for many UK jazz stars such as John Law, Gwilym Simcock and Tim Garland.

Russian double bass virtuoso Yuri Goloubev has been performing with John Law since 2010 and is a regular performer on the UK scene even though residing in Italy.

He frequently occurs with other jazz luminaries such as Gwilym Simcock, Tim Garland and Bill Smith.

In 2002 Yuri becomes the youngest bass player ever in the history of both the USSR and Russia to be awarded the prestigious title of the Honoured Artist of Russia by President Putin.

Tickets are £10, concessions £8, available from 07922 005002.
