A stretch of the A39 over Exmoor has been closed this afternoon after a number of vehicles got stuck in snow drifts.

The steep stretch of the road at Porlock Hill has been closed by Somerset County Council's highways department at the request of police, due to high winds.

Those winds, combined with the snow that has fallen over the past two days, has caused several drivers to become stranded.

Motorists are now being advised to avoid the road, and signs have been put in place notifying people of the closure while snow blowers are tasked with clearing a route.

“There's no way I'd go anywhere near that road in this weather!”
