A371 road closure in Cheddar postponed
Cheddar has been spared a painful road closure for the time being with resurfacing of the A371 postponed.
Paving and resurfacing was due to start on Church Street, Draycott Road, Bath Street and Station Road on Monday, February 18 for three weeks. Motorists were advised to use a diversion route.
However, the closure has been postponed until further notice.

Andrew Turner, Somerset County Council's area highways manager, said: "We have deferred the planned highway maintenance works on the A371 Church Road and B3135 Cliff Street. This means the planned road closures will now not go ahead until the gorge issues are resolved.
"This has been a difficult decision, but it is essential that the effects of traffic disruption are minimised for shops, businesses and attractions in Cheddar."
Traders and motorists of Cheddar will be pleased with the news as they prepared for a battering on their businesses and journeys.
Mike Latham, vice chairman of Cheddar Traders Association, said: "We think it's an extremely good idea to postpone the works and hope that the powers that be consult with us next time.
"It makes much more sense if half the road as done with traffic lights used so the road is not closed."
The postponement follows the ongoing closure of the B3135 at Cheddar Gorge, now in its 81st day of closure.
Businesses remain open at Cheddar Gorge, the closure taking effect near the caves.
