Hundreds of people have already pledged their support to the Western Gazette’s A303 Dual It! campaign in its first week.

Scores have cut out and filled in the petition coupon printed in the paper, logged on to our website and signed up in stores near the A303.

  1. The Western Gazette

Bold statement: Since the Western Gazette launched its A303 Dual It! campaign last week, support has been forthcoming via numerous channels. Les Cornford wrote to the paper to say: “I see cars overtaking on double lines, cars forcing others to brake heavily to avoid an accident, as they force themselves into a non-existing gap at the end of the two-lane section. I believe the only solution is to dual the road in question.”

They have also taken to social networking device Twitter where they have been “tweeting” their approval and we have been inundated with numerous telephone calls with supportive comments.

Our message has also spread across the Channel, with Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the South West, Sir Graham Watson, getting behind the campaign.

We have also been asking for your experiences and opinions of travelling on the road and you have not let us down.

You have sent us letters, e-mails and commented online.

Lisa Jones from Yeovil signed our online petition.

She said: “I’ve travelled along the A303 from the M3 all the way down to the A358 on many occasions this year, particularly while relocating to Yeovil from London.

“Every journey has had a heart-stopping moment where I’ve nearly ended up in an accident because of the state of the road, commuters or congestion. It is particularly bad when big trucks carrying cargo are driving on it.

“Also, road rage seems to be an issue, maybe more so in the single lane sections.”

Jake Farrent of Ansford commented: “Let’s make sure that this plan goes ahead, it has been long overdue and I hope that everybody can come together and make this happen.”

June Kitchen of Taunton said: “I drive to Yeovil for work every day and have seen a multitude of accidents.

“The reckless driving I have witnessed needs to be seen to be believed, especially when the two lanes merge into one.

“Making it dual would make the road a much safer place.”

If you want to unite in our bid to make the road safer, simply cut out the coupon, below, fill in your details and send it to us.
