£750,000 Lottery funding bid for Weston-super-Mare museum overhaul
Lottery cash is being sought for an overhaul of Weston-super-Mare’s museum.
Weston Town Council, which took over the Burlington Street museum from North Somerset Council in April 2011, has submitted a bid for £750,000 to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The town council, which has also earmarked £100,000 towards the project, is waiting to hear this month whether its first stage bid to the HLF has been successful.
If funding is agreed, work could start on site early in 2014.

The plans include installing a lift to the first floor of the museum as well as reconfiguring the gallery spaces.
It is hoped that items which are currently being stored by Somerset County Council in the Heritage Centre in Taunton will also be able to go back on display in the museum.
Although the building is owned by Weston Town Council, all of the collection still remains the property of North Somerset.
