2012 Weston Beach Race ticket deadline extended after MXGP stars sign up
The deadline for ordering advance tickets for this year's Weston-super-Mare Beach Race has been extended by a week following the addition of two big-name riders to the line-up.
Reigning MX2 world champion Jeffrey Herlings and Yamaha factory MX1 rider Shaun Simpson will be among the 1,000 bikers taking on the resort's famous dunes course on October 13 and 14.
Tickets for the annual race, which attracts crowds of 50,000, are now available to order online up until this weekend.
Bike fans who buy their tickets in advance can save up to 30 per cent compared to on-the-day prices, as well as avoiding ticket office queues.
Race organiser RHL Activities has also extended the deadline for rider entries until October 7.
"It's only in the last few days, just as the entry deadline was approaching, that we finally managed to confirm Jeffrey and Shaun for this year's RHL Beach Race at Weston," said RHL Activities director Gareth Hockey.
"We know a lot of riders at Weston like to measure themselves against the professionals, and they don't come any more professional than Herlings and Simpson.
"It's the big name riders that a lot of spectators come to see. This is why we've extended the entry and ticket deadline.
"We'll now be taking entries up until midnight on Sunday, October 7, which will give everyone more chance to sign up to take on the likes of Herlings, Simpson, Brad Anderson and Tom Church around the infamous Weston dunes course.
"Advance tickets sales, with significant discounts on gate prices, will also continue until same cut off time.
"We have a strong line-up of pro-riders, but we're still working to bring even more big names to this year's event, the 30th running of the RHL Beach Race at Weston, and I hope to be able to confirm even more star riders in the next few days."
Weston Beach Race action gets under way on Saturday, October 13, with races for 125/250F (9am to 10.30am), youth 65cc (11am to 12.30pm) and adult quads/sidecars (1pm to 4pm).
Sunday's action begins at 9am with a 90-minute youth quad race, to be followed by an 85cc small/large wheel race between 11am and 12.30pm.
The main event - a gruelling three-hour race down Weston's mile-long seafront start and back through the challenging dunes - gets under way at 1pm.
